9/11 Survivor Shares 25th Anniversary Tribute on Survival and Community

On the morning of September 11, 2001, Patrick was on the 27th floor of the World Financial Center executing an IT consulting contract for Man Financial Group when the first plane struck the North Tower directly across the street. He narrowly evacuated the area, witnessing the surreal devastation firsthand. For Patrick, survival carried a unique weight. Just three months prior, Patrick was interviewed on the 103rd floor of the North Tower with a worker at Cantor Fitzgerald. Because Patrick was not selected for the position, the individual hired in his place and the interviewer ultimately perished on 9/11—a reality that Patrick has spent twenty-five years reconciling, a narrative he explores in his chapter from the business anthology, Mission Matters Volume 4.

"Twenty-five years later, the site has transformed with towering glass monoliths and bustling tourist crowds, yet the structural presence of absence remains," said Patrick. Patrick returned to Lower Manhattan days after the tragedy to assist Man Financial to physically relocate affected NYC employees to business continuity sites, while working only a block away from Ground Zero and applauding the first responders navigating the toxic debris. Today, as a member of the WTC Health Registry, his tribute serves as a call to support the ongoing wellness of survivors and to foster genuine reflection amid the shifting landscape of the city.
